A special Coffee House will be held on Friday, September 24th at the North Shuswap Community Hall to help kick-start this year’s Adams River sockeye run. The evening event will feature those songwriters who entered “The Song for the Salmon” contest. This Coffee House is being made possible thanks to help from Sylvain Vallee, who will be managing the sound and lights and Lynn Erin who will be organizing the volunteers. Hundreds of North Shuswap residents and visitors have appreciated the Friday evening coffee houses and concerts organized by this dynamic artist duo this summer at the Fireweed Gallery.

Many musicians from throughout the region have spent months writing their songs that contain the words “Adams River” and “sockeye salmon.” They are all vying for the $500 grand prize and a hand-sculpted glass trophy by Chuck St. John plus two passes to the 2011 Roots and Blues Festival. The second prize is $250. The winners will play their songs at the Salute to the Sockeye Festival on October 3rd at Roderick Haig-Brown Park.

This special coffee house will provide a once only opportunity for an audience to hear many of the songs composed for the contest. As well, other musicians will be welcome to sign-up and perform and they will be encouraged to choose songs with a salmon theme. Sylvain will also perform, as his music is always a treat for audiences.

Doors will open at 7pm, with the music beginning at 7:30. Admission will be $3, with the proceeds going to the North Shuswap Coffee House fund. Refreshments will be available by donation. Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy some great musical entertainment and get in the mood to celebrate this year’s amazing sockeye salmon run. For more information, phone 679-3693.
