While we were on vacation the federal government called for comments on proposed fish farm regulations that would allow fish farms to expand their feed lots without environmental assessments! Have they not heard our concerns? This timing of these proposed regulations was hard for people to respond. Almost 7,000 people signed Alexandra Morton’s letter and added their own comments. She will be sending them to DFO tomorrow.

If you would like to add your name and comments today please click this link or or enter it into your browser:

I wrote my letter about the fish farm regulations at 1 am after working all day on a piano – it’s full of spelling mistakes but I think it says what I want. Send your comments to Ed Porter at DFO. Lots of people have sent letters but the more the better. Today is the last official day to accept public input – so if you forgot to do it, please take a few minutes and tell DFO what you think about fish farms and the ability of the regulations to actually safeguard our water, wild salmon and human health.

Send your comment to Ed Porter PAR-RPA at dfo-mpo.gc.ca Subject line Canada Gazette – fish farm regulations Please remember to use the @ sign if you are copying Mr.Porters e-mail address. .

If you want to read more about DFO’s proposed regulations first, please go to “Critical Input Required” http://alexandramorton.typepad.com/ Alex has lots of information and there is lots more info at salmon are sacred.org

When you sign Alexandra Morton’s letter to DFO you will get e-mail updates from her. If you want more time to get others to send letters to DFO ask your MP to extend the time limit. Why should there be a time limit on comments? The Cohen Commission is still sitting and the facts about fish farms are still hidden. Write to your MP about this anytime you can.
