Let's review some facts about Lumby

1. It’s been over a decade since Lumby was entirely dependent on the forest industry

2. Lumby has a diversified economy, including small business and tourism.

3. Lumby people are entrepreneurs – many are self employed.

4. Demographics include a steady rise in families and children, right now:

  • Lumby is experiencing a baby boom!

5. Many new residents are retired or independently wealthy.

6. Lumby is the gateway to the Monashee. It’s beautifully appointed:

  • farms and fields dotted with cattle an horses
  • rivers and creeks
  • 10 minutes to the Shuswap Falls where the salmon rival the Adams River run
  • mountain views
  • hiking out of town
  • three Salmon Trails wind along two creeks through Lumby townsite
  • the Village is small, quaint, safe and friendly

7. Lumby homes are larger than average size.

8. Lumby has felt the same economic slow down as the rest of the Okanagan.

9. The jobless rate is in line with the provincial average.

10. Positive trends include steadily rising real estate values

11. Lumby exists within a rural population three times it’s size – in the ‘Monashee Foothills’

People come and people go but many rural families have been here for many generations. When I was growing up – the sign at the Village entrance said “Welcome to Lumby” on the back it said “come back and live” – We did come back and that was 50 years ago.
