O Canada – who for a lost democracy?

Update: It’s been a year since we put together the video for OCanada and once again, I want to thank Laila Yuile for giving it wings. Wow – over 4,000 views on Youtube. “Happy Canada Day, everyone. United we stand. We must not fall.”

Last week, I sang my song for the National Energy Board – Enbridge Hearing Panel in Kelowna.
I re-worked my words and personalized the last line:

[warning]”let it be you and let it be me”[/warning]

Here’s the lyrics I sang in Kelowna

O Canada we’ve all agreed to
stand for the true north strong and free
with glowing hearts from sea to sea
we stand on guard for thee

O Canada on Native land
we wash the oil from tar and sand
for pipe to power this darkest hour
from sea to shining sea

But who stands watch for the earth below?
stands for the ice and the melting snow?
Who for the land to call our home?
Oh Canada I don’t know

O Canada with fossil soil
we scar the land with tar and oil
for carbon power this darkest hour
from sea to shining sea

But Who looks out for the clear blue sky?
stands for the air so none of us die?
who for wind and the birds that fly?
Where the planet goes there go I

O Canada with hearings planned
you lock the door at your command
from public power this darkest hour
for all the world to see

O Canada O Canada
Who stands watch from sea to sea?
Who for a lost democracy?
Who for the true north strong and free?

Let it be you and let it be me

I want to thank Laila Yuile  and the Vancouver Observer and everyone else on facebook and twitter who helped give this song wings. It’s been shared with over 3 thousand people.
